Meridian offers a wide range of custom polybag options for all your needs. While the majority of our polybags are made from low density polyethylene (LDPE), we can also create medium (MDPE) and high density (HDPE) depending on your desired purpose. Low density polybags are the perfect cost-effective solution for food grade industries (from produce bags, meat processing through to food and beverage packaging), while higher density or heavier polybags are suited to industries such as mining and landscaping.

Our Process

Our polybags, which are converted on our bag machines from extruded polytube, can be supplied either loose in cartons or on perforated rolls for easy tear-off use. Custom manufacturing allows us to offer a wide range of design features including gusseted bags, bottom seal plastic bags, side seal plastic bags, die-cut handles and perforation holes as well as tinted, opaque or clear natural finishes. With our expertise and in-house production, the possibilities are endless.

Side-Seal Bags

Side seal bags, also known as side weld bags, are usually bags with a lighter gauge. They are produced from folded polyethylene sheeting which is sealed (or welded) on each side with a hot blade. Side seal welds can be produced on flat or gusseted bags offering low-cost versatility, perfect for many retail solutions. As the seals are located on the length of the bag on both sides, the finished bag has one top opening and a seamless bottom.

The ultimate heavy-duty and leakproof solution, bottom seal bags are manufactured by using high temperatures to seal the bottom of the bag which is then cut with a flying knife. Bottom seal bags are tubular in design, with the seal located at the bottom width of the bag. They are designed to withstand great stress on both the seal and sides, making bottom seal bags an ideal choice for the use of heavy materials.

Side and Bottom Seal Bags

The difference between a side seal bag and a bottom seal bag is the method of manufacture. Bottom seal bags typically have a thicker gauge, are sealed using high temperatures and then cut with a flying knife. Lighter bags are generally produced as a side seal bag. A hot blade seals and welds the side of the bag.

What different colours can you produce?

We can produce almost any colour in opaque or tinted colours as required.

Can you print on the plastic?

Our printing press can print up to 5 colours, within certain size parameters.

Is your plastic suitable for food packaging?

All of our products are suitable for food contact. Our plastic is manufactured using 100% virgin food grade resin, with the exception of some non food grade applications that we can use recycled material to make.

Can you recycle my unwanted plastic?

We do receive a lot of enquiries regarding recycling unwanted plastic. The only material we can recycle through our machine is clean low density polyethylene (LDPE).

Is your plastic biodegradable?

Whilst our plastic is recyclable, it is not biodegradable. Certain additives can be used to make the plastic biodegradable in landfill. Enquiries are welcome.

Is your plastic recyclable?

Yes! All of our plastic is recyclable. Most of what we produce is LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene) with a recycling code of no. 4

Do you keep plastic bags and rolls of polytube in stock?

No, as every job is customised we don’t keep stock on hand

Do you have a price list or catalogue?

Unfortunately no, as every job is customised and every customer requires something different.

Do you make the product here in Australia?

Absolutely! All of our products are Made in Australia in our Brisbane factory. The bulk of our raw materials are also Australian made.

What type of plastic products do you manufacture?

Our blown film extruders produce flexible packaging, which are products such as polytube, bags, sheets, sleeves, centrefold etc.
