reduced greenhouse emissions using solar panels

Commitment to the Environment

Supporting our commitment to the environment, Meridian Plastics have installed the largest solar system possible at our premises.  We produce between 80 and 90 megawatt hours yearly, saving approximately 60-80 tonnes in reduced greenhouse emissions.  Our solar system produces 100% of our power needs on a sunny day and averages 2/3 of our total daytime energy needs over the year.

Reduced Greenhouse Emissions

Meridian Plastics are always researching ways to improve our processes and our products.  Innovations that can advantage our clients and cause less environmental harm and even be beneficial to our environment will always be investigated fully and implemented wherever possible, without sacrificing what we deliver to you.

As an Australian owned and operated company, Meridian Plastics are committed to preserving our natural resources and being environmentally conscious in our production processes.

Renewable energy sources are becoming increasingly more significant to our planet with non-renewable sources of energy constantly depleting. Solar energy provides a measurable contribution to the global reduction of CO2 in the atmosphere and has fewer pollution risks by comparison with other energy sources.

Meridian Plastics are committed to reducing our carbon footprint wherever we can. We have installed the largest solar system possible at our premises, being 190 commercial grade solar roof panels all feeding into our almost 60kw system. As an indication of what this means to the environment, we produce between 80 and 90 megawatt hours per annum – (that is 80-90,000 kilowatts) which is equal to approximately 60-80 tonnes in reduced greenhouse emissions! It is difficult to picture exactly what this means, but by comparison, 1 tonne of CO2 is the equivalent energy to power a diesel car 6000km.

Strategic Use of Solar Power

Our solar system produces 100% of our power needs on a sunny day, with excess power being fed back to the grid.  Of course, Brisbane does not have sun 365 days of the year, so with shorter days and cloud cover accounted for, we average 2/3 of our total daytime energy needs on solar alone. Martin is especially conscious of utilising as much green energy as possible and so runs machinery strategically so that more power is used in daylight hours. For example, our recycling machine is deliberately only run during the day.

Generating Clean Energy Reduces Overall Demand on Network

Since installing solar panels, it has been quite easy to assess the return on investment. Our energy bills are now effectively half of what they were prior.  This doesn’t just help our bottom line - decreased demand on the grid means lower costs of energy during peak periods so in turn, solar has the potential to bring energy prices down across the state. Of equal or perhaps more importance however, generating our own clean energy reduces the overall demand on the network during peak times and contributes to reducing the likelihood of brownouts and adding to the stability of the state’s power supply.

Constant and Never Ending Improvement
